~Option Two~

Potion Categories

For Today’s lesson, we will be looking into the various categories that potions can be sorted into. One of the more notable categories would be the Medical Magic category. This category includes Pepperup Potion, Wolfsbane Potion, The Antidote to Common Poisons, and Skele-gro. As the name suggests, this category includes any potion that can be used to heal a person or treat a person. Wolfsbane, for example, helps werewolves but does not stop them from transforming every full moon. On the other hand, the Antidote to Common Poisons is capable of curing a poisoning victim completely, so long as the poison used was a common one.

Another notable category is the Mental Potions category. This category is used for potions that affect the mind. Some of the more well known potions of this category are Veritaserum, Forgetfulness Potion, Draught of Peace, and Wit-Sharpening Potion. Each of these potions affect the mind in some way, whether increasing one's wits or causing someone to speak the truth, and as such are more difficult to brew correctly. Love Potions could fall into this category as well, given the way they sway another person's emotions and take charge of their mind, but Love Potions are also a category of their own.

Another category is the Unidentified Potions category. This category is used for any potion that is not understood enough to fit into a set category. For example, any fake potions would end up in this category as they are not what they claim to be. Other Unidentified Potions include the Regeneration Potion that Voldemort used to return to a proper body back in 1994, as well as any incomplete potions that are still being created. After all, you may set out to make a healing potion only to stumble upon a great recipe for a cleaning solution!
