~Option Three~

Calming Draught

For today’s lesson, we’ll be taking a look at the Calming Draught. The Calming Draught, as the name suggests, is a potion that can calm a person. Most often it is used after some traumatic or shocking event, allowing the person a chance to breathe and think clearly. However, it can have less than pleasant effects. Like any potion, too much can be dangerous for the user, but this potion can also be dangerous to pets like cats and dogs. So, if you do end up brewing this potion from home one day, be sure to keep your pets far away for their own safety! As to the potion itself, we know of its ingredients, but not how to brew it. Its known ingredients are: Lavender, Crocodile Heart, and Peppermint. Lavender is likely the main ingredient, given its calming nature, while Peppermint and Crocodile Hearts are less clear on their use in potions and general natures. Isn’t it just fascinating, to see what sorts of ingredients get used in each type of potion? This potion is considered advanced in difficulty, so only those who have made it this far in their studies of Potions would have a chance of being able to brew it properly! Now then, enough speculating from me. Let’s move on to your assignment for this lesson!

Homework

1. Consider the ingredients of the Calming Draught. Why do you think Crocodile Heart is included? What role could it play in the potion?

2. Choose 1 of the options below:

Option A: Imagine you are the Potioneer who created the Calming Draught. Tell me the story of how you discovered the recipe and why you decided to share this potion with the world.

Option B: Calming Draught can be very beneficial when used properly. Create an ad to showcase the Calming Draught. Be sure to include a warning about not using too much, and keeping it away from pets. Get creative and show me your idea of a fun and informative advertisement!

Option C: Research the ingredients used in this and other potions and choose which you would include if brewing Calming Draught yourself. Which ingredients did you choose, and why? What sort of effect do they have on people and in potions? Use as much detail as you need to get your point across!
