~Option Three~

Famous Potioneers

Today’s lesson is about Famous Potioneers! There are plenty of interesting Potioneers to discuss, but I’m only going to focus on a few. Let’s start with Arsenius Jigger. Arsenius Jigger was a Potioneer who, at an unknown point in time, taught as Defence Against the Dark Arts Professor at Hogwarts. You may recognize the name from the three textbooks he has written: "The Essential Defence Against the Dark Arts", "Magical Drafts and Potions", and "Potion Opuscule". That’s right! He’s the author of the textbook we use in this class! He was a highly talented Potioneer who’s contributions to Potions are still studied and used to this day.

Another famous Potioneer is Horace Slughorn. Horace Slughorn is most notable for being Potions Master at Hogwarts twice, first from 1931 to 1981, and then returning to the post in 1996. He is a talented Potioneer who was known to invite talented students to the illusive Slug Club. The Slug Club now is less active than it was in its heyday, but some students may still find themselves invited to join the club for an activity when they least expect it! Though he is now retired from teaching, he has left behind a legacy of talent and knowledge. Now on to your assignment!

Homework

1. Choose two Potioneers not mentioned in this lesson and do some research on them. What are they known for?

2. The Ministry is looking to honor one Potioneer this year and has asked our help in deciding which Potioneer should be chosen.

Choose 1 of the options below:

Option A: Create a pamphlet or poster about the Potioneer of your choice and why they are worthy of being formally recognized. Be sure to include what their achievements are and make your arguments convincing!

Option B: Write a short bibliography on the Potioneer of your choice. Include why they should be the one chosen and what their achievements are. This should be a short bibliography, so aim to include all the information you need to make your case in about 200-300 words!
